The Outsiders IN

Who: College Students (they fall into that trap of unhealthy environments however other than the freshman 15 individuals do not normally gain too much weight or become too unhealthy.)
What: is nutrition and health the same
Why: for some students we still all want to be healthy we just get the temptations of being on our own. The unmet need is the same in this situation it just is a lot easier with all the walking around campus to have the unhealthy environments around you and still be able to stay healthy.

Who: College Towns (they fall outside of the boundary because they choose to be there and accept that there are those unhealthy options)
What: is nutrition and health the same
Why: due to their location of being in a college town they are usually surrounded around the unhealthy choices and quick options which is what they preach in college the quick option. However, with college town residents they usually have the desirable support for the college and unhealthy or not they do not care for the unhealthy environments they just want to be close enough to support them

Who: Athletes (even though they should fall into the category because their main purpose is to stay healthy they do not get trapped in this because they have better discipline and opportunities with the school to have healthier options than regular students.)
What: is nutrition and health the same
Why: for these outsiders there unmet need is the same they just have better resources to obtain some of these needs.

Who: Those socially aware of the issue (some people are aware of the unmet need and their choice of unhealthy and healthy is limited so in order to do something about it they solve the problem so about their way to find the healthy options and avoid the healthy vs unhealthy spectrum.)
What: is nutrition and health the same
Why: the underlying cause is similar/same however these individuals are aware of their unmet need and decided to go about it to change things for themselves and their options.

Who: Individuals who do not mind (the other form of outsiders are the ones that know their problem know their issue but either don’t have the same effects as everyone else or they just do not mind and are happy how their life is treating them not everyone wants to be healthy)
What:  is nutrition and health the same
Why:  their underlying need where as they may have one does not correlate to what my research and hypothesis is they similar do not care.

Inside the boundary
Outside the boundary
Who is in
Those looking to be healthy who are in low income areas, or environments where the unhealthy to healthy spectrum is extremely leaning to the unhealthy side.
Who is not
Those individuals who do not care, those who are aware and act on it those who have the extra benefits to dismiss the balance and those who choose to be in environments and accept the unbalanced distribution.
What the need is
The need is to understand and give further support to eliminate the unhealthy vs healthy distribution to support the movement towards health.
What the need is not
The need is not trying to find better options of nutrition and health and lower prices but improving the distribution or knowledge to change people’s views the healthy can be met.
Why the need exists
The need exist because a healthier life leads to healthier options and opportunities
Alternative explanation
The need could exist because people are believed to know that a healthier life incompasses those things such as nutrition and exercise.

  1. Hello Brandee,
Your interviews really captured the different perspective that people have on living and eating healthy. I think your solution of re-directing the health supply could easily work, however, there are going to be people that are inside your boundary but simply won't have the need. Some people are comfortable the way they are living currently, and some simply won't be able to transition into a healthier lifestyle. So focusing on the groups that you will impact the most and you'll have a great service.
