The Bug that Keeps Living

20 Things that Bug me
2A:

1.     The merge on S. W. 20th street
·      This Merge exist because slow moving traffic mainly due to drivers not wanting other drivers to get in front of them which causes a lot of back up on the road from hours of 4:45-6:30
2.     High prices for healthy food
·      Healthy food because of the ingredients are priced higher and the cheaper quality food is priced lower so that individuals will put their money more towards something more convenient then something more priced.
3.     Abundance of fast food restaurants on every corner you turn but healthy food places are hidden or extremely far
·      The US claims they want their citizens to live healthier lifestyles but they truly just want the quickest way to generate the most money and that is through cheap food restaurants and fast food places at every corner. As well as the more fast food place they put around the block it tricks the brain to say it is hungry causes unnecessary spending.
4.     Miscommunication/ lack of communication
·      Individuals like to be independent and think that some things others should just figure out either what they mean by certain actions or what they truly want or what they are thinking. In doing so we run into miscommunication because people are not open enough to experience feelings, tell the things they tolerate and things they do not.
5.     Disrespect
·      Disrespect in any form exist because individuals are threatened mainly by their own insecurities or the threat of losing something/someone and instead of finding positive ways to deal with feelings or doing the above ^ communicating they turn to disrespect what they do not understand or what they do not know.
6.     When people do not act their age as they get older
·      Turing this time people tend to hold on to childish ways of dealing with situations because they are either scared to grow or are too comfortable in the position they are in that change or anything different from the past is uncomfortable and individuals are not comfortable with the uncomfortable. But you need to be in order to grow.
7.     People confusing pain/tears with weakness
·      People like to assemble labels to everything people do and put them into categories of whether something is strong or weak. People confuse pain/tears with weakness mainly because of what they have been told but once you go through an experience were pain/tears are released in abundance you will understand it’s not weak to cry but it is weak to pretend your pain is not real.
8.     Lack of understanding
·      The bug of lack of understanding exist because people do not realize that even on situation can effect multiple people different ways. People have a lack of understanding because of lack of knowledge or lack of reason to connect. There can be something you do not understand but once you attempt to understand and see why something happens you find a better understanding.
9.     Pants that do not fit at waist but fit everywhere else
·      Designers have this idea of how the typical women should be fit and we are reduced to petite, juniors, adults, and plus sizes however it is truly rare that anything whether you fit in these categories or not fits you.
10.  Overcharge of merchandise in college towns
·      This exist because they know it will be high populations of students who are young and may not be able to manage their money or that they won’t know the difference between the prices.
11.  Lying
·      Lying exist to cover up tracks of things you do not want someone to find out. People with lie because they are protecting someone, do not wish to hurt something feelings because the truth hurts or they simply do not care and lie because they get the thrill of getting away with it.
12.  The struggle to finish school in America due to all the test and applications you must past that nine times out of ten do not get you anywhere
·      We put a lot of attention on education and that a degree will get you a long way but yet the system makes it extremely hard to get to each stages of life in the education realm. We say education is power, however you those are not providing us with the correct tools for our education is it truly power?
13.  Teachers who do not care and how easy it is to become a teacher
·      It is amazing. They want everyone to get great education opportunities but yet they will recruit anyone to become a teacher. The lack of background and motivation in the system and teachers is the why teaching is not praised or the output to education.
14.  Wiggle classes
·      These classes exist to wiggle out students who do not pass the class are said to not be “fit” for a particular major and for each major they have set wiggle classes.
15.  Lack of military discount in Gainesville
·      Said to be because there is not a military base in Gainesville.
16.  The way we shy away from the conversation of sex
·      They think the best education for kids to learn about sex is to not talk about it instead of actually talking about it. When you talk about it questions get answered and curiosity lessens but when conversation is not started individuals figure things out on their own and that is when we have the abundance of teen pregnancy and spread of diseases.
17.  The way we shy away from the conversation of women health and their periods
·      For some reason it is strange to talk about the things that go on in our body as if it is not natural and actually beneficial yet instead it is a touchy topic.
18.  How some shoes do not come in all sizes, men, women, and kids?
·      Certain shoes I actually do not know the reason behind this but they will either be only in men sizes, or only kids sizes instead of making all shoes in every available size.
19.  Vulnerability
·      Vulnerability is the opening up portion of your life when you decide to let someone in and open up their ability to hurt you but trust them enough no to. But the thing about vulnerability is because individuals are so afraid of it they rarely open up leaving the people they come into contact with nothing to look at but walls.
20.  Gender boundaries
·      To separate women and men/ boys and girls instead of just understanding that we are all humans on this earth.
I did not have too much of a problem figuring out what bugged me and to an extent I already knew why the things that bug me happen so I have a general understanding before the assignment thaty they exist for a reason. However, this assignment and the answers I gave did help me see how i looked at the world we live in and further open my eyes to my morals and view.

  1. Hello Brandee, great job on your bug list, after reading it, I realized we have a lot of bugs in common, for example, the high prices of healthy food, something that has bugged me since I started a very healthu diet, overcharging merchandise is also really annoying, I wanted to buy my mom a UF shirt but it was way more expensive than I expected so I could not get it for her

  2. I found it interesting what you brought up regarding the availability and pricing of healthy food. These facts bug me as well since a healthy lifestyle is a huge priority for me. I’m blessed that Gainesville is a college town, since there are stores like Earth Fare where prices aren’t too bad and places to eat that are found in abundance like The Root. Back home in South Florida, you have to search around to find healthy food places, and - more often than not – the prices are ridiculous.
I also wanted to comment on this because of how these tiny “bugs” also have infected America on a national-scale as they contribute to issues that are affecting our country both in terms of economics as well as public health. For example, the high prices of healthy food are a key factor to the obesity epidemic America faces today. We are in desperate need of making healthy food accessible to all. Those with lower income currently don’t have this access because healthy foods are often not found in their locations and the prices are too high for what they can afford. As such, low-income families and individuals often turn to food banks and kitchens (which typically have canned foods full of sodium and fat) or fast food restaurants for their meals. Such a lifestyle leads to a variety of health-complications including obesity, which can easily be prevented by providing more affordable and accessible healthy foods.
